It might sound like stating the obvious to say that your chances of success are going to improve if you’ve got the greatest player of all time on the field, but Inter Miami may need to emulate Argentina’s recent Copa America success by winning the upcoming Leagues Cup without Lionel Messi. The Argentine legend was forced off in the final against Colombia and with no timescale given for his return, it’s now expected that he may miss the tournament.
Inter Miami’s defense of the Leagues Cup begins next weekend as they take on Mexican side Puebla, but despite being pre-tournament favorites, opening odds of +900 show that this isn’t a foregone conclusion.

Although the MLS sides dominate the top ten in the betting list, two out of the three previous winners have come from Mexico. With Messi likely being injured for the tournament, I like the look of Club America who receive a bye and don’t have to participate in the group stages alongside Hub privileges which could also help see them deep into the tournament.
