The Big 12 is arguably the most talented conference in the country, and one of its best teams tries to avoid a road upset when #12 Iowa State (15-5) visits Texas Tech (11-10). The fact that the #12 team in the country is only a one point favorite against a team that is 0-8 in the conference is either a trap line or a sign of just how competitive the Big 12 is from top to bottom.

Before Betting on Iowa State vs Texas Tech

These two teams are on opposite ends of the conference standings, with ISU tied with Texas and Kansas State atop the Big 12 at 6-2 while the Red Raiders are still looking for their first win in league play at 0-8. The schools do come in with different momentum though, as the Cyclones are 2-3 over their last five while the Red Raiders just posted an impressive 76-68 win at LSU to snap an eight game losing streak.

There is something fishy about Monday night’s line, not just because TTU is still winless in the Big 12 and is just a +1 point underdog but also because Iowa State dominated in the first meeting with an 84-50 win in Ames to easily cover just a -4.5 point spread. The Red Raiders had been dominant in the series, winning 7 of the previous 8 prior meetings.

Iowa State’s elite defense was on display in the first meeting with TTU, holding the Red Raiders to 5-28 from three point range and 37% from the field. The Cyclones are 12th in the country allowing 60.5 ppg, but they’ve also allowed 75+ in back to back games, an 80-76 win over Kansas State but then a 78-61 defeat at Missouri on Saturday.

Iowa State vs Texas Tech Prediction & Pick

This is a game where you simply read the line instead of any stat, trends, or past records. The #12 team in the country giving just a point to a club that is 0-8 in conference play is an obvious trap. It looks like the Red Raiders get on the Big 12 board here on Monday.

Pick: Texas Tech +1
