One game does not win or lose a Heisman – usually – but USC’s Caleb Williams and his berth to win the honor in back to back years took a major hit in last Saturday’s 48-20 loss at Notre Dame. The Utes smell blood in the water for the Utah vs USC week 8 matchup after taking two from the Trojans last season.

Before Betting on Utah vs USC

Williams was just 23/37 for 199 yards with 1 TD and 3 INTs vs the Irish a week after going a mere 14/25 for 219 yards and a TD in a 43-41 OT win against Arizona so he looks human. That trend of mediocre games for the 2022 Heisman winner could continue on Saturday night considering the Utes have the #9 total yard offense in the country and have the 2nd best rush defense in the nation allowing just 66.2 ypg on the ground.

Williams looking human has to be a good thing for Utah, but the Utes really don’t need any extra confidence after beating USC 43-42 at home during the regular season last year and then stomping them 47-24 in the Pac-12 Championship game. Utah also won in their last trip to Los Angeles, taking home a 42-26 victory in October of 2021.

QB Cameron Rising was a star for the Utes last year, throwing for 725 yards and 5 TDs in two games vs the Trojans last year. He’s still recovering from a knee injury so the Utes offense hasn’t looked that dynamic – but the good thing is USC’s defense makes everybody look good while allowing 40+ points in their last three games.

Utah vs USC Week 8 Prediction & Pick

Maybe teams have figured Williams out, and things definitely don’t get any easier this week for the USC QB against a stout Utah defense. When you combine that with USC’s own defense being Swiss cheese you have to take the points in this matchup.

Pick: Utah +7
