Before Betting On 2,000 Guineas
The 2,000 Guineas kicks off the British Classic season this weekend, with the Rowley Mile at Newmarket hosting the Group One. This race is one of the most historic in the world, as it was first staged in 1809. Despite being the opening leg of the Triple Crown in the UK, it is extremely rare for runners to line up in the Derby and St Leger following the 2,000 Guineas.
Aidan O’Brien has trained a record ten winners of the 2,000 Guineas, and he holds leading claims to improve that record this year. City of Troy is one of the most exciting horses in the world, with the three-year-old son of Justify having won on all three career starts to date. He was sensational over seven furlongs at Newmarket last year, beating Alyanaabi by three lengths in the G1 Dewhurst. The strength of that form makes him challenging to oppose.
Richard Hannon and his team have been very bullish surrounding the chances of Rosallion. The three-year-old was excellent over seven furlongs at Longchamp last October, beating Unquestionable by a length. That was a perfect return to form after finishing third behind Iberian in the G2 Champagne Stakes.
Godolphin’s Notable Speech will be the ride of William Buick, but he has plenty to find on official ratings, despite having won on both career starts. Night Raider also deserves respect for the Karl Burke team. But, despite winning on both starts, he is yet to claim a victory on the turf. However, he will have a fitness edge over many of his rivals after returning to action in March.

City of Troy is very hard to take on in the 2,000 Guineas, especially if returning to action with an improved showing following his dominance in the Dewhurst. Night Raider could beat a few fancied runners into second, while Ten Bob Tony could be an interesting outsider.
