The Oklahoma State Cowboys (7-5) had one of the best pass offenses in the country this season but starting QB Spencer Sanders has decided to enter into the transfer portal and won’t be available for the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. Wisconsin (6-6) is in the same spot, with their QB Graham Mertz also headed elsewhere which leaves a lot of questions ahead of Tuesday night’s tilt.
Before Betting on the Guaranteed Rate Bowl
Sanders’ decision to leave Stillwater doesn’t leave Oklahoma State with a lot of options at QB for their bowl game. Garret Rangel got two starts this season, but both were losses to Kansas (37-16) and West Virginia (24-19). Gunnar Gundy should know the offense considering he’s the son of coach Mike Gundy, but he’s also played sparingly this season and both are just freshman.
At least the Cowboys have coaching stability in this game, as the Badgers have lame duck fan favorite Jim Leonhard making his last appearance with the program after taking over in the interim when Paul Chryst was fired. Leonhard went 4-3 in his audition to get the full-time job, but the Badgers instead decided to lure Luke Fickell away from Cincinnati. Wisconsin players would still probably love to send Leonhard out a winner, as he’s a former walk-on in Madison who made his way to the NFL for nearly a decade and has been the Badgers defensive coordinator the last five seasons.
The Badgers had a top 15 defense in the country this year, but that gets neutralized a bit losing Nick Herbig and Keeanu Benton, two NFL prospects at LB and DL respectively. UW does have an 1,121 yard rusher in Braelon Allen who will take some of the pressure off either Chase Wolf or Myles Burkett, whoever starts at QB.

Guaranteed Rate Bowl Prediction & Pick
This is a real wild card game not just with both starting QBs transferring but Wisconsin having a lame duck – but popular – head coach in his last game. Either way look for this to be a defensive struggle.
