The 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year battle will be brutal. It could be one of the best in the last several campaigns, as there isn’t a dominant defender who stands above the others.

Before Betting on the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year

Nick Bosa won the 2022 honors, finishing ahead of Micah Parsons. Bosa won 46 first-place votes and had 237 points in total, while the Cowboys LB had 101 points. Bosa’s 49ers lost two quarterbacks during the season, and the focus of the team shifted from offense to defense, where he dominated.

Prior to Bosa, the winner was TJ Watt, and in 2020, Aaron Donald, who won his third DOPY award back then. Alongside him, only Lawrence Taylor and JJ Watt have been named the best defender three times in their career.

Micah Parsons is expected to win the honors this year and leads the way in the standings according to the BetOnline.ag odds. The young Cowboys’ linebacker was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021, and ever since entering the league, he became a dominant force.

Behind him is recovered 2021 DPOY, TJ Watt, who tore his muscle and missed a large part of the previous campaign. Watt is the younger brother of the three-time winner, JJ, who played for the Texans and the Cardinals before retiring.

The Browns’ controversial star, Myler Garrett, is the next in line, with the former top pick waiting for this award for quite some time. If it weren’t for his problematic attitude and behavior, Garrett would have had at least one award.

Bosa is the fourth contender. For many, this is underestimating one of the best players in the league, but if nothing, it would only give more motive to the 49ers star. Ahmad or Sauce Gardner is in the mix as well, coming off a campaign that earned him the Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
