#11 Penn State (10-2) and #8 Utah (10-3) have a lot in common with each other, which is why the offshore sportsbooks have set the line at just a single point in most places. One thing on the Nittany Lions’ side is nostalgia, as this marks the 100th anniversary of their 1923 appearance in this game, the first one held at Rose Bowl Stadium. With this being the last traditional Big 10 vs Pac 12 Rose Bowl for the foreseeable future, PSU coming out on top would be a nice bookend for the Granddaddy of Them All.

This really is a coin flip game just because Penn State and Utah are both so similar. They each have a veteran QB, with the Nittany Lions’ Sean Clifford being a 4-year starter with the program and the Utes’ Cameron Rising just completing his second full year as QB1. Both QBs have thrown just 7 INTs on the season.
Both programs also take a dent from opt outs. PSU’s Joey Porter, Jr. is the #1 ranked CB in the 2023 NFL draft, but Utah CB Clark Phillips III is 7th at his position and neither will play Monday. Both teams also lose their top receivers to NFL draft prep, with Utah’s Dalton Kincaid (890 yards, 8 TDs) the #2 TE and PSU’s Parker Washington, Jr. (611 yards, 2 TDS heading to the pros as well.
Both programs also have deep RB rooms, and their losses this season aren’t all that devastating. The Utes suffered three losses – all on the road – to Florida, UCLA, and Oregon while Penn State’s defeats came to two of the four playoff teams, Ohio State and Michigan.
