Baltimore Ravens at Kansas City Chiefs
The NFL season kicks off with a rematch of last year’s AFC Championship game on Thursday night. The Chiefs got the better of the Ravens in their previous matchup, en route to their second straight title. Now, Baltimore will be aiming to spoil Kansas City’s trophy homecoming by getting revenge on their conference rivals. The addition of RB Derrick Henry should help their odds, but it’ll remain a tough task to topple Patrick Mahomes on the road.

Green Bay Packers vs Philadelphia Eagles
The second matchup of the NFL season takes place in São Paulo, Brazil. It will be the first regular season NFL game to take place in the country of Brazil. It’ll be a good matchup as well, between two of the best teams in the NFC. With equal aspirations of returning to the Super Bowl, Philadelphia and Green Bay should bring this game down to the wire. The Eagles added RB Saquon Barkley in the offseason, who could give them the edge.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Atlanta Falcons
On the first Sunday of the NFL season, the newly rebuilt Falcons will aim to avoid another frustrating start. They’ve built up their offense gradually, adding skill-position talents in RB Bijan Robinson, WR Drake London, and TE Kyle Pitts. Awful QB play prevented Atlanta from improving, but they addressed that this offseason with Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix Jr. Even so, T.J. Watt and Pittsburgh’s defense may have them on the ropes.

Arizona Cardinals at Buffalo Bills
Buffalo has remained perennially competitive under QB Josh Allen, but has struggled to make it deep into the postseason. After another futile result last season, they’ll be looking to claim what should be a winnable game against the Cardinals. Arizona’s offense will have some pop with Kyler Murray throwing to Marvin Harrison Jr., but their defense is a work in progress. Buffalo needs to overcome Stefon Diggs’ departure, but should still win.

Tennessee Titans at Chicago Bears
The Titans and Bears were among the worst teams last season, but are headed in different directions. Chicago overhauled its offense, selecting QB Caleb Williams and WR Rome Odunze with their two top-10 selections in the NFL Draft. They added veteran WR Keenan Allen to the mix as well. This game could be high-scoring with holes in both defenses, but Tennessee is more likely to struggle offensively. The Bears should win it at home.

New England Patriots at Cincinnati Bengals
This game features the largest spread of Week 1, though it may be a bit of a trap. Realistically speaking, the Bengals should be a much better team than the Patriots this season. That being said, they are coming off of a season plagued by injuries, most notably to QB Joe Burrow. While Cincinnati should be healthy, a slow start is not out of the question, especially against a Bill Belichick defense. The Bengals should win a low-scoring clash.

Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts
There are high hopes for the Texans this year, who won a playoff game last season under rookie QB C.J. Stroud. Houston transformed their offense with the selection of Stroud and made similar improvements on defense thanks to Will Anderson Jr. After adding RB Joe Mixon and WR Stefon Diggs, the Texans should have an offense capable of competing with the best. That being said, Anthony Richardson’s return is also notable.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Miami Dolphins
Miami once again has one of the most stacked rosters in the NFL, but is still fighting to win their first playoff game since 2000. They’ll aim to start this season on the right note against the Jaguars, who won’t be an easy out. Eyes will be on RB De’Von Achane, who was playing at a superb level before his injury last year. Meanwhile, Jacksonville needs Trevor Lawrence to take the leap from great to elite this season, after a down year in 2023.

Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints
The NFC South continues to be the NFL’s weakest division, at least as the season begins. The bottom half of the division faces off in this game, which is likely to be a slugfest. After a hugely disappointing season last year, Carolina and QB Bryce Young are likely to make some sort of improvement in 2024. If New Orleans struggles to move the football early on, the Panthers very well may start the season by upsetting a division rival on the road.

Minnesota Vikings at New York Giants
This game features a rematch of a 2022 wild card game. Both teams have taken tumbles in the relatively short time since, and are now expected to finish in the bottom-10. That being said, they also get notable players such as WR Justin Jefferson and QB Daniel Jones back from injury. Jefferson will be key to watch against New York’s secondary, as well as Malik Nabers against Minnesota. Jones should have the edge over Sam Darnold.

Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers
The Raiders declared Gardner Minshew as their starting QB this offseason, making him the 3rd QB to be named the starter over the last 3 seasons. With Aiden McConnell shifted into a backup role, Minshew gives the Raiders more consistent arm talent and a winning mentality. Meanwhile, the Chargers will be expecting to kick off the Jim Harbaugh era with a win. Don’t be surprised if Minshew Mania makes an appearance and takes this game.

Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks
The “Russell Wilson” matchup no longer features Russell Wilson, who departed for Pittsburgh in the offseason. While Seattle got the most out of Wilson during his prime, Denver made some franchise-altering mistakes by trading several picks for him and doubling down with a mega-contract. A rookie QB like Bo Nix will help them afford to pay a player that isn’t on the team anymore, but Denver is still struggling. Seattle should win at home.

Dallas Cowboys at Cleveland Browns
The Cowboys enter this game as underdogs, despite typically being more competitive than the Browns. Last season, these two teams were essentially at the same level, which should make this an exciting Week 1 clash. The matchup of Micah Parsons vs Myles Garrett may make this a defensive frenzy, especially if QBs Dak Prescott and Deshaun Watson struggle. With RB Nick Chubb easing back in, Dallas will have a key advantage.

Washington Commanders at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Washington is excited for the debut of rookie QB Jayden Daniels, who looked fantastic over the offseason. His first real game action comes against the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay has a solid defense, but it’s not as dominant as previous years, with many players aging out of the prime or finding new homes. That creates an opportunity for Daniels, though the Commanders will still be outmatched as a whole. The Bucs should win at home here.

Los Angeles Rams at Detroit Lions
The first Sunday Night Football game of the season features two NFC powerhouses. The Rams have remained competitive since winning the Super Bowl in 2022 and expect to be in the playoff picture again this season. Meanwhile, the Lions just snapped a 30-year NFC Conference Championship drought, and continue to improve. Detroit is hoping to have officially put their ineptitude behind them. They should start this season with a win.

New York Jets vs San Francisco 49ers
Monday Night Football in Week 1 features an intriguing matchup. Like last offseason, the Jets are cautiously optimistic about their chances of ending a 13-year playoff drought. With one of the NFL’s best defenses, New York just needs the consistent QB play of a healthy Aaron Rodgers to turn things around. That being said, they were still a 7-10 team last season. Don’t expect a huge win at San Francisco to happen in Week 1 for the Jets.
