We’ve got a good one on paper when the #3 seed Creighton Bluejays (21-11) tangle with the #2 seed Xavier Musketeers (24-8) for a chance to play for the conference championship on Saturday. Both of these teams have been hovering around the top 25 all year, and split their two regular season meetings with each team picking up a win on their own court.
Before Betting on Creighton vs Xavier
Creighton definitely had an easier time with their Big East Tournament opener, beating Villanova 87-74 to easily cover the -4.5 point spread. Xavier on the other hand had to stave off an upset having to come back from a 39-26 deficit to top DePaul 89-84. That was supposed to be an easy win for the Musketeers as -12 point favorites.
DePaul shot 61% from the floor (35-57) including 8-16 from three point range which could be an indictment on the Xavier defense that was the 3rd worst in the Big East this season allowing 74.7 ppg. Creighton ranked 3rd highest in scoring with all five starters averaging at least 11.9 ppg so Friday night’s game could see some points put up considering the Musketeers were second in the conference with 77.1 ppg.
Creighton did dominate Xavier 84-67 on January 28th in Omaha as -5.5 favorites, but the Musketeers struggled to a 90-87 victory when the schools met at the Cintas Center on January 11th. The game at the end of January was the last of the season for the Musketeers’ Zach Freemantle (15.2 ppg) who was lost for the year with a foot injury but Xavier did go 6-3 in his absence.
