It’s the game of the week with some really solid potential to be the game of the year as #3 Tennessee visits #1 Georgia (AP Polls). In the first CFP rankings released this week it’s actually the Volunteers that are flip-flopped as #1 with UGA at #3 but that may be temporary with the Bulldogs as high as a -9.5 favorite for this Tennessee vs Georgia battle.
Before Betting on Tennessee vs Georgia
What’s fresh in our minds about the Volunteers – aside from two lopsided wins over Tennessee-Martin and Kentucky the last two weeks – is their 52-49 win over Alabama in week 7. The Vols offense was unstoppable in that game with Hendon Hooker moving into the Heisman front-runner position with 385 yards and 5 TD passes with Jaylin Hyatt catching all five of those.
There are two big reasons why you just can’t look to the Alabama game and assume that Tennessee can hang here with Georgia. First, the win over the Crimson Tide was in Knoxville and that rabid fan base made a difference – even carrying the goal post out of the stadium after the victory. Second, the Georgia defense is much, much better than Alabama’s.
Another thing overlooked in the win over the Crimson Tide was that Tennessee’s defense was kind of bad. Sure a lot of the yardage that Alabama racked up (569 yards total) was because the Volunteers’ offense was scoring so fast (37 to 22 time of possession difference) but Bryce Young throwing for 455 yards in that game doesn’t bode well for a matchup with Stetson Bennett IV and the Georgia attack.

Tennessee vs Georgia Prediction & Pick
As you’d expect with what could be the most heavily wagered game of the day, the books have some discrepancies with their numbers. There’s a 40 dollar swing between UGA -290 at BetUS and -330 at MyBookie and BetUS is taking a lot of action dropping the spread a whole point.
Georgia has to come out with a chip on their shoulder here, something they really haven’t had aside from their two meetings with Alabama last year. The fact that the CFP put Tennessee #1 instead of the defending champs makes this a statement game for UGA.
