Before Betting on Clemson Georgia Tech Week 1
An exciting first full dose of college football comes to a close on Monday with the Clemson vs Georgia Tech week 1 meeting. The Tigers are big favorites to get off on the winning track in the offshore odds as they try to rebound from a 10-3 season a year ago. 10-3 sounds good for most teams, but this is a squad used to playing in the CFP so a Cheez-It Bowl win over Iowa State wasn’t exactly rewarding.
Georgia Tech is getting over three TDs on the offshore odds in the season opener, but when we last saw them in 2021 they were getting beat 55-0 by Notre Dame and then 45-0 by Georgia the last two games of the season. That was part of six straight losses to end the year for the Yellow Jackets after a 3-3 start. GT did play Clemson close last year though, losing 14-8 in week three as +27.5 underdogs.
Clemson is giving a lot of points for a team with some uncertainty at QB after DJ Uiagalelei struggled with 10 INTs to just 9 TDs a season ago. Uiagalelei completed just 55.6% of his passes, a far cry from 2020 when he filled in for future #1 pick Trevor Lawrence and had 5TD to 0 INT while completing 66.7% of his throws. The Tigers had the #95 total yard offense in the country last season after being 11th in 2020.
If Uiagalelei hasn’t improved then this will be a very low scoring game, especially since Clemson has a top 10 defense that returns seven starters from the squad that allowed just 14.8 ppg a year ago. Georgia Tech ranked 95th in scoring in 2021 (24.0 ppg) so playing the under looks like the way to go in this closeout to week 1.

The obvious place to put a wager on the Tigers outright in the Clemson Georgia Tech week 1 matchup is at Pinnacle, but -1835 is still a lot of scratch to risk just to win $100. The total in this game has stood firm throughout and it looks like bettors are going to risk around -110 whether they take or give the points.
