The injury-plagued San Francisco 49ers (5-6) are fighting to save their season as they journey to play the Buffalo Bills (9-2). Our 49ers vs Bills prediction is for favored Buffalo to cover the 6-point spread.

After San Francisco’s blowout loss to Green Bay in Week 12, they fell to 5-6, one game out of first place in the NFC West. They have a rough schedule ahead.

Buffalo had its bye after Week 11’s 30-21 win over Kansas City, handing the then-undefeated Chiefs their first loss. They have the AFC East sewn up. Now Buffalo needs wins to keep pace with the Chiefs. If KC loses another game, Buffalo can secure the number one seed in the AFC.

Head-to-head, Buffalo leads San Francisco with a 7-6 record.

Brock Purdy’s Status is in Question

San Francisco has listed quarterback Brock Purdy as questionable. Some reports suggest he will play. Others are less positive. Given the talk about his shoulder woes and that he was supposedly relegated to handoffs in practice, it’s difficult to believe he’ll play. If he does, how effective will he be, particularly in the Buffalo cold on Sunday night?

Offensive tackle Trent Williams and defensive end Nick Bosa are out.

Against Green Bay, Purdy’s replacement Brandon Allen showed why he is a career journeyman backup. His passes were behind receivers, he missed open shots, and the running game with Christian McCaffrey suffered because Green Bay did not need to worry about Allen making them pay.

It will be very hard for San Francisco to win or even stay competitive in this game.

Buffalo Has Its Eye on Bigger Things

The Bills have won six straight. They have scored 30 or more points in five of those six games. They are +14 in turnover differential, the best in the NFL.

Although their defense has been middle of the road in terms of passing yards and rushing yards allowed per game, what is San Francisco going to do if Purdy can’t play or is compromised?

With how Buffalo’s offense has been clicking and that quarterback Josh Allen is on a mission in 2024, it’s hard to see how San Francisco can stop them, especially with their litany of injuries.

The Bills play San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Detroit. If they get through those games with two wins, their final three games are against New England, the Jets, and New England again. It could mean the first-round bye, home field, and a trip to the Super Bowl.

49ers vs Bills Prediction: Buffalo in a Walkover

Purdy’s shoulder sounds like a bigger problem than San Francisco is letting on. Even if he were 100%, would that matter that much in the cold against the Bills?

Buffalo will cover the spread and probably win big.
