The Sixers scored only 86 points in Game 6, losing 95-86, which was disastrous. Embiid and Maxey delivered 52 points (26 each) and were the best among the Sixers, but we need to add that the recent MVP, Embiid, failed to show up in the decisive moments.
The former NBA MVP, James Harden, also failed to deliver, with him posting only 13 buckets, missing 12 of his 16 shots. He was solid in other aspects of the game, nine dimes, and seven boards, but performed poorly in offense. Tobias Harris had miserable two points, and he is by far the biggest disappointment of the series.
The Celtics again showed their fighting spirit, going into this one as hard as possible and remaining like that after losing a 16-point lead and falling behind the Sixers. Jayson Tatum was the key player, with 16 of his 19 points coming in the final 12 minutes. Tatum scored a flurry of threes, most directly in Embiid/Harris’ face throughout that period.
Marcus Smart was the top scorer for the guests with 22 buckets. He was steady in the finish, doing all the dirty work while organizing Boston’s game rationally. Jaylen Brown ended with 17 points, one more than Malcolm Brogdon.
