Before Betting on Angels vs Braves July 23

It seems like the Los Angeles Angels lone chance to win for the week has come and gone. LAA came into Friday night’s series opener 2-12 in the month of July, both wins coming during Shohei Ohtani pitching outings. Ohtani took the mound Friday and had his worst start in recent memory, giving up 6 ER over 6.1 IP in an 8-1 win for the Atlanta Braves.

Ohtani did have 11 K’s on Friday, but he also gave up HRs to Matt Olson and Marcell Ozuna as Atlanta pushed their mark to 13-5 this month after going 21-6 in June. The Braves looked poised to make a run at a World Series repeat, and they’ve closed the gap to 1.5 games on the 1st place Mets in the NL East.

Atlanta has to be confident that if they can get to Ohtani on Friday night, Patrick Sandoval (3-4, 2.95 ERA) won’t be much of a challenge in the Angels vs Braves July 23 matchup. The offshore odds have Atlanta as a whopping -200 or higher favorite after being -143 in the series opener.

Besides allowing 5 ER over 5.0 IP in a 9-1 loss to Houston on July 2nd, Sandoval has been pretty solid in allowing just 1 ER each to Baltimore and in two starts against the red hot Mariners. That means Atlanta’s Kyle Wright (11-4, 2.95 ERA) may find himself in a pitching duel as he continues his breakout year. Wright is 7-2 with a 3.05 ERA at home in 2022.

Atlanta is a big favorite at every book, but there are some discrepancies in the offshore odds pricing. Sandoval hasn’t been bad for a possible Angels upset, but if the Braves offense can rock Ohtani it just shows how zoned in Atlanta is right now as they are 38-15 in their last 53. The Braves run line will be a popular wager on Saturday night.
