Both the Winnipeg Jets (48-24-6) and the Dallas Stars (50-20-9) have punched their tickets to the 2024 postseason but Thursday night’s meeting at the American Airlines Center is still very important. Dallas can clinch the Central with a win either in regulation or OT, and they are just a point back from the Rangers for the franchise’s third President’s Trophy. Winnipeg is two points back from Colorado for second place which would give them home ice in the first round of the playoffs.

Winnipeg is trending upwards coming into Thursday night’s meeting, riding four consecutive wins. This is a very streaky team though, winning three in a row before dropping six straight prior to their most recent run. The last two victories for the Jets have come on the road, 4-2 in Minnesota and 4-3 at Nashville on Tuesday.
Dallas is playing pretty well to close out the regular season as well – which you’d expect from a team fighting for the President’s Trophy. The Stars have won 10 of their last 11, which included an 8-game win streak prior to a 3-2 loss in Chicago on Saturday. Dallas may have been looking ahead to the meeting with Colorado on Sunday – which they won 7-4 and followed that up with a 3-2 home victory over Buffalo on Tuesday.
The Stars have great value on Thursday just because Jake Oettinger (33-13-2) is in net riding an eight game personal win streak. Strangely enough Oettinger isn’t in the running for the Vezina Trophy, which is all but guaranteed to go to his opponent in Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck (36-19-4). Hellebuyck is second in the NHL in wins, second in save percentage, and fourth in goals against average.
