So much for playoff hockey being about tough, physical defense and strong goaltending play because Winnipeg and Colorado were pelting the back of the net on Sunday in what was an eventual 7-6 Jets win to take a 1-0 series lead. Was that an impressive showing from two offenses, or just Swiss Cheese from each defense? We will find out more in Game 2 on Tuesday night.

Before Betting on April 23 Avalanche vs Jets

While it looks like Vezina Trophy favorite Connor Hellebuyck struggled in net for Winnipeg in Game 1 allowing 6 goals, he was also peppered with 46 shots which puts the goals allowed in a little better perspective. Colorado was also the top scoring team in the league (3.7) during the regular season, takes 33 shots per game (5th) and Hellebuyck faced the third most shots of any goaltender in the league so this is going to be a tough series for the Winnipeg netinder.

While Hellebuyck may face another onslaught in Game 2, the good news is he should get a lot of offensive help again. Adam Lowry and Kyle Connor both had two goal games against embattled Colorado goaltender Alexandar Georgiev on Sunday. Georgiev has now allowed at least four goals in 7 of his last 9 starts. What’s worse for Georgiev in allowing 7 goals in Game 1 – he only faced 23 shots.

Georgiev is struggling and to make matters worse for Colorado coach Jared Bednar is that backup Justus Annunen has missed the last two games with an illness and remains questionable. It looks like the Avalanche are have to score at least 5-6 goals again to have a chance in this one, but the good news is they have the offense to do it.

April 23 Avalanche vs Jets NHL Prediction & Pick

Oddsmakers know they likely can’t push the O/U to 7 or even 8 for playoff hockey, but they might have to later in the series. Until then the total of 6 is a steal for two good offenses and one very, very bad goaltender.

Pick: Over 6
