The Phillies were able to defend their home field advantage in a big way on Tuesday night with a 7-0 victory over the Astros to take a 2-1 World Series lead. Philadelphia is now two wins away from celebrating in front of their home crowd and they’ll look to close that gap in the Astros Phillies game 4 matchup.
Phillies Have the Power Surge
The Phillies tied a World Series record on Tuesday night with five HRs, coming off the bats of Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, Kyle Schwarber, Brandon Marsh, and Rhys Hoskins. Philadelphia had a 4-0 lead by the end of the 2nd inning as batters 1-4 for the Astros went a combined 1-14.
Now Rob Thomson turns to Aaron Nola on the mound for the second time this series. Nola was saved by his offense in Game 1, allowing 5ER over 4.1 IP including two HRs for the second straight game. The Phillies still came through with a 6-5 win in 10-innings in that game though.
One positive for the Astros in the Game 3 loss is that they got 3.0 IP out of the bullpen from Jose Urquidy after Lance McCullers, Jr. couldn’t get out of the 5th. Cristian Javier makes his 2022 World Series debut on Wednesday night but he’s had a long layoff not pitching since October 22nd when he allowed just 1-hit in New York to the Yankees in a 5-0 Houston win.

Astros Phillies Game 4 Prediction
The offshore books are calling Astros Phillies game 4 a close one, splitting the line at places like BetOnline and Bovada. Philadelphia definitely had their bats working in Game 3 with the 5 HRs but they’ll likely need a lot of offense with how bad Nola has been these playoffs. Ultimately though, Javier having such a long layoff is going to have him out of sorts as well so the best play here is on a bunch of runs.
Pick: Over 7.5
