Texas hoped to steal a win at Minute Maid Park to take home field advantage in the ALCS, but instead they are coming back with a 2-0 lead over Houston ahead of the Astros vs Rangers game 3 meeting. Bruce Bochy’s club wants to keep that momentum as the series shifts back to Arlington on Wednesday night.

The Rangers were supposed to be nervous for this series considering Houston is playing in their 7th straight American League Championship Series, but instead Texas has walked away 2-0 and a 5-4 road wins. It’s not the best regular season teams that are dangerous in the postseason (see the Braves and Dodgers) but the ones who get hot – and Texas is now 7-0 in these playoffs.
Texas gets one of their big arms back for game 3, as Max Scherzer returns from a strain in his pitching shoulder. Scherzer is one of the all time greats making his 23rd career postseason start, but he also hasn’t pitched in an MLB game since September 12th. Scherzer will almost undoubtedly be on a pitch count which is why Tuesday’s off day was huge for the Rangers bullpen to rest.
It’s not ideal to drop the first two games of the ALCS at home, but Houston has a few things working for them on Wednesday night. First, Scherzer hasn’t pitched in over a month and could be gettable early on. Second, Houston is on the road but when they visited Globe Life Field September 4-6 they came away with 13-6, 14-1, and 12-3 victories so this team can hit in this park. Also, Cristian Javier is up in the rotation and he allowed just 1 hit while striking out 9 in 5.0 IP against the Twins in the ALDS.
