Barring a massive meltdown by the Brewers, neither St. Louis nor Cincinnati are going to catch Milwaukee in the NL Central over the last month-and-a-half of the 2024 season. The two clubs are still battling for second place in the division though, and the Reds (59-61) have made some nice headway by winning the first two games of this series. The Cardinals (60-60) try to avoid the sweep in what offshore oddsmakers are calling essentially a toss-up game.

Before Betting on August 14 Cardinals vs Reds

The Reds have tallied a 6-1 and a 4-1 win so far this week, obviously getting some solid pitching to go along with timely hitting. Spencer Steer had two HRs and five RBI to fuel Monday’s win while Jeimer Candelario and Ty France both went deep to lead Tuesday’s victory.

While the Reds have found the long ball this series, it’s been their pitching that has stole the show. Andrew Abbott threw 6.2 IP of 1ER ball on Monday while Hunter Greene threw 7.0 solid on Tuesday giving up just an ER. Cincinnati will use a bullpen day on Wednesday, with Emilio Pagan working as the opener after being activated from the 60-day IL this week.

The Cardinals have only been outhit 12-9 through the first two games, but outscored 10-2. Kyle Gibson (7-4, 3.99 ERA) hopes for more run support when he takes the ball in the finale. Gibson has allowed 2 ER or less in three of his last four, and he allowed just 2 hits and 1 ER in a win over the Reds at the end of May.

August 14 Cardinals vs Reds Prediction & Pick

The Cardinals offense is in the gutter, but the Reds are using an opener on Wednesday while trying to avoid the sweep. Cincinnati has some nice momentum, but their pitching situation for the series finale is just too much of a wild card.

Pick: Cardinals ML
