The Braves started the month 2-6, but they’re turning things around a bit going 4-2 since. Atlanta (64-57) won’t catch Philadelphia in the division, but they are currently holding on to the final wild card spot in the NL. The Angels (52-69) are once again just waiting for a nightmare season to end, and they’re not even putting up a fight anymore as losers of five of their last six.
Before Betting on August 16 Braves vs Angels
One big advantage the Braves have in Friday’s game is that they’ve already been on the West Coast for a week and won’t have the jet lag from a cross country flight. Atlanta started their long road trip by dropping two of three to the Rockies at Coors Field, but they did score 24 runs in the three game set. The Braves have bounced back though, taking three of four in San Francisco this week including a 13-2 victory on Wednesday.
The Braves might be tiring on their road trip after a 6-0 loss to the Giants on Thursday, but even a mediocre effort might be enough to beat this Angels squad. LAA just got swept over a three game series at home against the Blue Jays, scoring a total of 5 runs in the process. Los Angeles did have Thursday off, so maybe that will help them recharge their offensive batteries a bit.
The Angels lone All-Star representative Tyler Anderson had his worst outing of the season in the finale against Toronto, so Jose Soriano (6-7, 3.36 ERA) will try to be a stopper when he starts on Friday night. Soriano has been great lately, allowing 1 ER or less in four of his last five while posting a 1.91 ERA over that span. Los Angeles is 4-1 in Soriano’s last five starts.
Whit Merrifield (HR) and Austin Riley (2B) both have extra base hits in their only career ABs vs. Soriano. Braves starter Spencer Schwellenbach (4-5, 3.95 ERA) hopes that transfers into some run support although he doesn’t need a ton after allowing just 5 total ER over his last three starts. Schwellenbach allowed just 2 ER pitching at Coors Field on Sunday, so he’ll get a nice break against this Angels offense.

August 16 Braves vs Angels Prediction & Pick
The Braves were flat offensively in their series finale against the Giants and they may be tiring on the tail end of a West Coast road trip, but it’s hard to pull the trigger on the Angels here. Atlanta is the better team, but this game should be decided by the pitchers who have both been very good as of late.
