Will offense be on tap at hitter friendly Coors Field on Friday when the Padres meet the Rockies to kick off a 3-game weekend set? Colorado (44-78) just got swept at Arizona, but all three games of their last home series against Atlanta went over the 10.5 total. San Diego (69-53) can get some runners on base with the #1 batting average in the league (.265) and they’ve got momentum with wins in 10 of their last 11.

Before Betting on August 16 Padres vs Rockies

San Diego is right in the hunt with the Dodgers, just two games back from LA in the NL West. Arizona also has the same record as the Padres, so that’s a very tight division that may not be decided until the last weekend of the season.

The Padres are hot, but they’ve also had two sweeps over the last place Pirates as well as a series win over the last place Marlins during their run. That’s OK though, because Colorado is also a last place club that has the second fewest wins in baseball behind only the White Sox. The Rockies are just 3-8 over their last 11 which includes dropping two of three in San Diego at the beginning of the month.

Matt Waldron (7-9, 4.00) takes a crack at Coors Field as San Diego’s starter for the series opener. The Padres had lost four straight Waldron starts beginning at the end of June, but they’ve turned around and now won four consecutive outings from the right-hander. The Padres might be winning in spite of their starter instead of because of him, as he’s given up 5ER in two of his last three – his lone solid outing over that span being 1 ER allowed to these Rockies on August 4.

Colorado goes with Cal Quantrill (7-8, 4.56 ERA) on Friday but he’s allowed 10 ER his last two starts and those were on the road. Quantrill couldn’t get out of the 4th inning on August 4 in a 10-1 loss to the Padres but he’s got a decent 3.95 ERA at Coors Field this season.

August 16 Padres vs Rockies Prediction & Pick

The Rockies have been one of the worst teams in baseball the last few seasons, but they’ve actually had some success against the Padres winning six of the last 10. That makes betting on the Padres very risky, especially when most of the damage Colorado has done to themselves has been on the road (17-46). The best play here is on the offenses.

Pick: Over 11
