The Twins (70-54) hope to continue a successful road trip as they head to Petco Park on Monday to begin a series with the Padres (70-55). Minnesota just took three of four in Arlington against the Rangers, but both of these clubs are a product of their division – double digit games above .500 but still in second place as the Twins try to catch the Guardians (2GB) and San Diego stays in the hunt with the Dodgers (3GB).

Before Betting on August 19 Twins vs Padres

It was a disappointing weekend for San Diego, who only managed one win at Coors Field against the last place Rockies. Usually when a team heads to Denver their bats come alive, but the Padres suffered a 7-3 and a 3-2 defeat to Colorado over the three game set.

Minnesota looked good in their four game series with the Rangers, mostly due to their pitching as Texas scored three runs or less in three of the four meetings. Zebby Matthews (1-0, 3.60 ERA) tries to keep the strong presence on the mound going as he makes just his second career MLB start. Matthews got the call up from Triple A St. Paul last week and will stick around as the 5th starter after throwing 5.0 IP of 2ER ball in a 13-3 win over the Royals on Tuesday.

The Padres failed to take advantage of hitter friendly Coors Field over the weekend, and they are back at Petco Park where they are surprisingly just 33-29 on the year. San Diego has played nothing but last place teams so far in August, going 3-3 against the Rockies, 6-0 against the Pirates, and 2-1 against the Marlins. Michael King (10-6, 3.19 ERA) gets the ball in the series opener against an increased quality of opponent, but he’s allowed 2 ER or less in 11 of his last 13 starts.

August 19 Twins vs Padres Prediction & Pick

It wouldn’t be a shocker to see the Twins offense struggle in this spot, heading to the West Coast and facing a tough pitcher in King. The Padres couldn’t get their bats going in Denver, and they have no experience against Matthews making just his second MLB start. This looks like a low scoring affair at Petco Park.Β

Pick: Under 7.5
