The White Sox are closing in on a milestone – and it’s not a good one. Chicago (30-96) is likely going to hit the 100 loss mark by the end of the week and got closer to that mark following Monday’s 5-3 loss to the Giants in the series opener. San Francisco (64-63) needs nothing less than a sweep this week against the worst team in baseball, as they are trying to close in on the final wild card spot, currently 3.5 GB of the Braves.

The White Sox did knock out 11 hits in the opener, but had a hard time converting those to runs.
The hard luck Davis Martin (0-1, 3.00 ERA) takes the mound for Chicago in game two. He’s allowed a single ER in his last two starts (11.2 IP) but both of those games ended up in White Sox defeats. Martin did make a start in the bay on August 7, allowing 2 hits and 0 ER over 6.0 IP to Oakland, so he’ll look for similar success this time against San Francisco.
The Giants send Robbie Ray (2-2, 6.00 ERA) to the hill on Tuesday as he tries to rebound from 5ER allowed to Atlanta in his last start. The left-hander managed to only get 2 outs vs the Braves while throwing 39 pitches, so at least he’ll be fresh. Ray had been pitching well, allowing 2 ER or less in three of his previous four starts and he’ll try to regain that form against the worst offense in baseball (3.10 runs/game).
