The second team that will be competing in the final of the Women’s World Cup will be determined on Wednesday morning, as host nation Australia take on reigning European champions England. Both nations have impressed at the tournament to this point, but which nation will reach a first final in their history?

Before Betting On Australia vs England

Australia and England will be colliding at the Women’s World Cup for the first time in history on Wednesday. However, the Aussies could have a slight advantage over their rivals, as they landed a 2-0 win over England in April. That was the only defeat that the Lionesses have suffered under Sarina Wiegman in 37 matches.

This is the third straight edition of the competition in which England have reached the final four. However, they have lost at this stage of the World Cup in both the 2015 and 2019 editions. The most recent of those defeats came against the United States in France.

Australia will be playing in the semi-finals at the competition for the first time this week. They have become the third host nation to reach this stage of the competition, with the USA achieving the same feat in both 1999 and 2003.

It is only the second time in Women’s World Cup history that England have come up against the host nation. On the previous occasion, they landed a 2-1 win over Canada at the quarterfinal stage in 2015. Their winning goal in that encounter was scored by current right-back Lucy Bronze.

However, Australia will be confident of upsetting the odds on Wednesday, as they have excelled defensively throughout the tournament. They have kept clean sheets in four of their five previous matches. Only Germany in 2007, Norway in 1995, and the USA in 2015 have kept fewer clean sheets in a single edition of the Women’s World Cup.

There will be pressure on both nations on Wednesday, with a record-breaking audience likely to tune in. However, we feel as though England have better quality across the field, and they could be primed to end the host nation’s excellent run at the competition.
