The action in the first Grand Slam of the season continues Down Under in the early hours of Wednesday morning, as the second round gets underway. You can find our Australian Open predictions for the action in the second round below.
Australian Open Predictions
Ugo Humbert vs. Hady Habib
French star Ugo Humbert kick started his Australian Open campaign with a dominant showing in the first round, overcoming Italian Matteo Gigante in straight sets.
Hady Habib has already made history by becoming the first Lebanese player to win in a main round of a Grand Slam event. But, his fairytale looks set to end Down Under on Wednesday.
Kei Nishikori vs. Tommy Paul
U.S. star Tommy Paul needed all five sets to overcome Australian wildcard Christopher O’Connell in the opening round. His performance levels will need to improve ahead of this tricky second-round tie on Tuesday evening.
Kei Nishikori enjoyed a great success from his serve in a dramatic opening round match against Thiago Monteiro, hitting 17 aces. We could see a slight upset coming tonight.
Elise Mertens vs. Jessica Pegula
A fascinating clash between seventh-seed Jessica Pegula and Elise Mertens is set for the second round on Tuesday evening. The American was excellent in the previous round, dropping just three games when overcoming Maya Joint.
Mertens needed a tie break to break the second round, and she could crash out in the second round for the second straight year.
Naomi Osaka vs. Karolina Muchova
Naomi Osaka continues to catch the eye on her comeback mission, and she was excellent when recording a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Caroline Garcia in the first round.
Karolina Muchova wasted little time in her first-round clash, but she has only gone further than this stage in one of four previous appearances. Therefore, Osaka could hold interesting claims, but the spread could offer insurance.
