After an extended break, Formula 1 action returns this weekend, as the first race in Europe in the 2023 season is staged. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place on the streets of Baku, with Red Bull aiming to continue their dominance at the top of both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ standings.

Before Betting On The Azerbaijan Grand Prix

It has been a long break for Formula 1 fans, but there will be a huge treat this weekend, as the Sprint Race returns before Grand Prix Sunday. It has been a dominant start to the season for Red Bull, as the constructor has landed victories in all three of the opening races this term. Max Verstappen already holds a healthy advantage at the top of the Drivers’ Standings, as the Dutchman looks to land a third consecutive title.

Verstappen landed a second win of the season in a controversial Australian Grand Prix in the previous round. The race finished under a red flag after three were waived, with two coming in the final ten laps. However, Sergio Perez snatched the fastest lap, with the Mexican looking like the most realistic danger to his teammate’s dream of winning a third straight title.

There have certainly been positives to take for Mercedes in recent races, with Lewis Hamilton taking second in Australia to land a first podium of the season for the team. However, they remain in direct competition with Aston Martin, boosted by an energized Fernando Alonso, who has finished third in each of the races this term.

Ferrari will once again face big questions this weekend. Charles Leclerc has failed to finish two of the three races this season, while Carlos Sainz dropped to 12th after a penalty in Australia. Leclerc took pole in the race last year, but was forced to retire with a power unit issue as Verstappen landed victory in Azerbaijan for the first time.

However, it looks hard to overlook the dominance that Red Bull has enjoyed over the opening rounds, but Perez enjoys the road races, and could be an interesting betting angle.
