As expected, Bayern Munich thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt in the closing match of Bundesliga’s Saturday program.
The Bavarians Easy Five
It was 5-2 for the hosts, who barely missed to get even with the Eagles for a 5-1 defeat from the first part of the season. The Bavarians won for the eighth straight time, keeping their four-point edge over their biggest rivals, Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern rolled over the guests, although Eintracht had a swing in one moment. After the opening 45 minutes, the hosts had a two-goal advantage, with Leon Goretzka and Thomas Muller scoring, and shortly after the start of the second half, it was Robert Lewandowski who netted, bringing a nice 3-0 lead for the champions.
But in just three minutes, the guests decreased to 3-2, with Martin Hinteregger scoring both goals.
Still, the undisputed rulers of the German football bounced back pretty fast as Alphonso Davies used one clumsy mistake of guests’ defense and scored. On top of that all, Hinteregger scored an own goal to set the final result.
Bayern has 61 points now, and is ahead of Borussia Dortmund with 57. The Millionaires defeated Wolfburg today on the road with 0-2, keeping the pace, and now have a perfect chance to decrease the gap, as Bayern arrives at Dortmund this Tuesday.
It will be an interesting match to see because there is no doubt that these two sides are the best in Germany right now.
As for Eintracht, they are very close to the relegation zone, and just five points away from the same. If they don’t work something out to improve the performances, the Eagles could wind up in a pretty unpleasant position.
Bayer Leverkusen Wins in Monchengladbach
For some, this was the true derby of the day, and the guests from Leverkusen went home with all three points. They defeated Borussia with 1-3 and jumped over them in the standings, catching the third position and the spot which leads to the Champions League.
Young Kai Harvetz continued to amaze the soccer community, scoring twice today, and proving that he is one of the best youngsters in Bundesliga and maybe even in Europe. After 8 minutes of play, he delivered his first goal, setting the final result of the first half. In the 52nd minute, Thuram equalized, but just six minutes later, Harvetz once again put his name on the scoresheet this time form the penalty. Lars Bender set the final result some nine minutes before the end.
Werder managed to squeeze a minimal win in Freiburg, although we need to say that they didn’t deserve it. The hosts were better throughout the majority of the game, and the final stats are showing that. However, what separated two sides was Leonardo Bittencourt’s goal in the 19th minute.
Paderborn and Hoffenheim played 1-1, with the entire action stopping after nine minutes. Robert Skov netted after four minutes for the guests, and after that Dennis, Srbeny scored an equalizer for Paderborn. They are still last in the standings with just 18 points, five fewer than Dusseldorf in the 16th place, the one which leads to the play out.
