The latest news from the NFL is suggesting that the Chicago Bears won’t be picking up their fifth-year option on Mitchell Trubisky.

Tubisky Didn’t Justify Bears’ Trust

With this move, Chicago indicated that they might be willing to move away from their No.10 and to let him go at the end of the 2020 campaign. The news shook the entire league, and caused massive attention, although the majority of the experts already saw it coming.

Back in 2017, when the Bears picked this young fella from North Carolina as the second overall pick, many believed that the franchise from the Windy City might storm back to the top of the league. When they added several other superstars, like Khalil Mack, for example, they were recognized as one of the top contenders for capturing Vince Lombardi trophy.

Yet, nothing happened, and Chicago lost valuable time thinking that Trubisky might improve and turn out to be one of the best passers in the NFL. The stats were quite the opposite. The previous season was very, very bad for him.

In all the vital and important aspects of play, he was among the worst quarterbacks – 17 TDs, 3,138 passing yards, just 39.4 of QBR, etc.

And on top of this, he was poor in clutch moments, and should be held accountable for at least a couple of team’s losses. That might have affected the Bears’ position in the standings and prevented them from entering the playoffs. The team went 8-8 and weren’t able to reach the postseason.

It was a massive blow for the entire franchise and its fans, following a 12-4 season, which ended after a dramatic loss against the champions at the time, Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round.

Per sources, Trubisly will earn $4.4 million in this campaign.

Foles The Main Rival For the Starting Position

This will be the biggest test of Trubisky’s young career. He would have to prove himself and deliver much better performances than until now, but in a far worse situation.

His team brought Nick Foles to town, trading the fourth-round compensatory pick in exchange for him. Furthermore, the Bears and Foles reconstructed his deal, and adjusted it to the current circumstances, easing the pressure on the salary cap and also allowing Foles an option to leave after this season.

According to almost all the higher executives in the franchise, the two will compete for the starting position, and neither of them has an advantage at this moment. Though, there are those who claim that Foles has better prospects of starting contests.

He was the NFL champion with the Eagles, and knows how to go all the way. Apart from that, he already showed that he can play fantastic football, unlike Trubisky, who, until now, provided nothing else but average performances.

The Bears meanwhile, are looking to bounce backs following the 8-8 season, and want to reach the playoffs ar all costs. They don’t have too much time, and need to use the current roster in the best possible way; otherwise, this excellent crew will disappear pretty soon.
