Our Bears vs Commanders prediction is underdog Washington against the 2.5-point spread at home. These two teams held the first and second picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Bears (4-2) took Caleb Williams from USC first overall. The Commanders (5-2) took Jayden Daniels from LSU.

A point to watch is whether Daniels plays. He is nursing a rib injury. If he cannot go, journeyman backup Marcus Mariota will be under center for Washington. Head-to-head, these league stalwarts have played 53 times with Washington holding a 27-25-1 advantage.

Bears a Surprising 4-2, but in Last Place

Chicago is back on the gridiron following its bye week and finds itself in last place in the NFC North despite a 4-2 record. To make the playoffs, they must win their next three games against beatable opponents Washington, Arizona, and New England. After that, most of their games are divisional matchups vs Green Bay, Minnesota, and Detroit with San Francisco and Seattle thrown in.

Williams has been brilliant in his last two games going 43 for 58 with five touchdown passes and only one interception. However, it needs to be put in context. The Bears’ schedule has not been strong with their wins coming against three of the worst teams in the NFL: Jacksonville, Carolina, and Tennessee. They also defeated the mediocre Rams.

Daniels’ Status Is Unknown

Daniels’ brilliant rookie season aside, the Commanders’ defense has markedly improved from last season when it was arguably the worst in the NFL. First-year head coach Dan Quinn’s specialty is defense and the turnaround has been with the same players as last season.

The question becomes can the Commanders move the ball with the oft-traveled Mariota? The former number two overall pick played well against Carolina after Daniels was injured. He went 18 for 23 with two touchdown passes. He also ran for 34 yards on 11 carries. Importantly, it was a 40-7 blowout over the woeful Panthers. Therefore, it is a reasonable question if he can perform as efficiently against a better team.

Bears vs Commanders Prediction: The Underdog Commanders Should Cover the Light Spread

The Commanders’ game plan will differ depending on who starts at quarterback. But they have shown they are resourceful. Quinn’s defensive scheme can adapt and contain Williams, D’Andre Smith, D.J. Moore, and Cole Kmet.

Our Bears vs Commanders prediction is that Washington will cover the spread of +2.5 points.
