The final race on the Formula 1 calendar before the summer break takes place at Spa this weekend, as the Belgium Grand Prix takes center stage. It has been a dominant start to the season for Red Bull and Max Verstappen, and the team will be chasing a record-extending victory in Europe this weekend.

Before Betting On Belgian Grand Prix

The F1 action continues in Europe this weekend, as the Belgian Grand Prix is the 12th stop on the schedule. This weekend’s race was first staged in 1925, and has been staged at the Spa circuit since 1983. Michael Schumacher remains the most successful driver in the history of the race, as the German driver won the race on six occasions. Ferrari is the leading team with 18 victories.

Carlos Sainz started on pole last year, but the Spanish driver eventually finished back in third. Max Verstappen landed victory in 2022, as he finished over 17 seconds clear of teammate Sergio Perez. That was Verstappen’s second straight win in the race, and Red Bull have landed victory at the Belgian Grand Prix on four occasions since 2013.

It appears very challenging to overlook the Dutchman once again this weekend, as the reigning world champion has won each of the last seven races. Red Bull has also won all eleven races to start the 2023 season. It was another dominant weekend for the team at the Hungarian Grand Prix, as Verstappen finished 33 seconds clear of Lando Norris. Perez also bounced back from another difficult qualifying session to steal third ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri.

The McLaren looked lightning quick throughout the weekend at the Hungaroring, with Norris easily holding off Perez to take second. Piastri would have also been a contender for a podium place, but a mistake in strategy allowed Hamilton and Perez to overtake the Australian driver.

Hamilton started on pole for the first time since the fateful Abu Dhabi decider a couple of years ago, but a slow start immediately saw the seven-time world champion drop down to fourth. The Mercedes struggled in the opening stages, but was closing on the top three in the final stages. It was another weekend to forget for Ferrari and Aston Martin, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz taking seventh and eighth, respectively. Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso could only finish ninth.

We find it hard to overlook Verstappen once again this weekend. However, we could see further evidence of the McLaren progression coming in Belgium, with Oscar Piastri preferred to land a podium finish for the first time in his F1 career.
