Huge racing action will take place at Belmont at the Big A this weekend, with a number of top quality stakes races being staged. One of the standout races on the card at Aqueduct comes in the the form of the G1 Belmont Derby, which has attracted a field of five runners.

Before Betting On Belmont Derby

The Belmont Derby is one of the standout summer races in the United States to be staged on the turf. The race covers a total distance of 1 1/4 miles, and a purse of $750,000 has been made available to connections. This race has been held since 1929 when it was previously known as the Jamaica Handicap. It has been a Grade One contest since being upgraded in 2009.

There will be European interest in the race this weekend, with Charlie Appleby sending the exciting Legend of Time to Aqueduct. The three-year-old has won five from seven career starts, and was very impressive over a mile and one furlong on his previous effort when landing the G2 Pennine Ridge Stakes.

White Palomino was second in that Grade Two, and he could be the leading challenger once again for the Chad Brown yard this weekend. The three-year-old has won once from three career starts, with his only victory coming over an extended mile and one.

Endlessly is a fascinating contender after swapping the dirt for the turf following his effort in the Kentucky Derby. Meanwhile, Trikari could be a leading contender after beating Legend of Time by five lengths in the G2 American Turf Classic earlier in the season. However, he was below that standard when third in the G3 Penn Mile Stakes on his previous start.

A small but competitive Belmont Derby is set for this weekend. However, Appleby’s Legend of Time looks to be the standout contender after bouncing back to form on his previous start in the United States. He should reverse the Churchill Downs form with Trikari on Saturday.
