The final leg of the Triple Crown in the U.S. will take place at Saratoga on Saturday. A reduced distance of 1 ¼ miles will be covered by the field in New York in the Belmont Stakes, with a competitive field of ten runners declared.

Before Betting On Belmont Stakes

It has been another dramatic season of the Triple Crown in the United States, and the final leg of the series will be run this weekend at Saratoga. Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan will be well-rested following his second in the Preakness Stakes, but he will face a new challenge over this untested trip in New York.

Seize The Grey got the better of the Derby winner in the Preakness, but the D. Wayne Lukas-trained runner is unlikely to get an easy lead in this bigger field on Saturday. Sierra Leone will likely be very short in the Belmont Stakes betting, and the three-year-old looks more than capable of reversing the Derby form after finishing just a nose behind Mystik Dan. The extended distance this weekend certainly plays into this son of Gun Runner’s hands.

Resilience will be the runner for William Mott this weekend, and he looked on an upward trajectory following his win in the G2 Wood Memorial. A bold effort will be likely this weekend from a favorable draw after finishing sixth in the Kentucky Derby. Honor Marie will also be suited by the extended trip and could be hard to dismiss.

Mindframe is one of the eye-catching newcomers to the Triple Crown this weekend for trainer Todd Pletcher. The three-year-old has won by a combined distance of 21 lengths across his two career starts, and further improvement is extremely likely on this step up into graded company.

Mindframe’s inexperience at this level, coupled with his wide draw means that he is opposable this weekend. Sierra Leone has everything in his favor to reverse the form with Mystik Dan, but the Derby winner could have the finishing speed to finish within the first three.
