Cincinnati Still Has a Shot at the Playoffs
Unlikely though it may be, the Bengals’ Week 14 win in Dallas on Monday Night Football salvaged their flickering playoff hopes. They need luck and help from other teams, but they can make it. Stranger things have happened in the NFL.
With their high-powered offense and quarterback Joe Burrow’s past playoff success, no team will want to see them in a postseason game.
The 27-20 win over the Cowboys exemplified why the Bengals are so dangerous. Burrow completed 33 passes in 44 attempts for 369 yards. Top receiver Ja’Marr Chase caught 14 balls for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
Their offense is deadly when it’s clicking. They are sixth in the league in points scored per game. Problematically, they are near the bottom in points allowed. Still, any game with Burrow makes them a tough opponent. The Titans’ defense has been successful against the pass in 2024, allowing the fewest yards per game in the league.
Tennessee’s Disastrous Season Winds Down
Tennessee is trying to rebound from an impotent showing in Week 14 managing only six points in a loss to the Trevor Lawrence-less Jaguars. Titans quarterback Will Levis completed 19 passes in 32 attempts for 168 yards against one of the league’s worst defenses.
As bad as the season has gone for the Titans and first-year head coach Brian Callahan, there are positives they can work with. Running back Tony Pollard has had a solid first season in Tennessee running for 937 yards so far. Defensively, they are adept at stopping the pass and are in the league’s top half against the run. They are near the bottom in takeaway differential.
The front office and coaches must either move forward with Levis or find a replacement in the draft. They will have a high pick to do it.
Bengals vs Titans Prediction: Cincinnati’s Playoff Chances Live Another Week
Burrow has been putting on a weekly aerial show. Although Tennessee’s pass defense is good, they will not stop Burrow and Chase. The Bengals will also get production from running back Chase Brown. Cincinnati’s frenzied playoff push will likely be futile, but it will not end due to a loss in Tennessee. They will cover the point spread and the total will go over 47 points.
