Our Bills vs Jets NFL prediction is that the favored road team Buffalo will cover the spread of -2.5 points.

In the case of the Bills (3-2) visiting the Jets (2-3) on Monday Night Football, an usual matchup will take place, since Jets owner Woody Johnson unilaterally fired head coach Robert Saleh five games into the season. This may throw an already dysfunctional team into greater depths of disarray.

Jets Face First Game After Coaching Change

Jets owner Woody Johnson reportedly fired Saleh before consulting with general manager Joe Douglas. However, he did speak to QB Aaron Rodgers beforehand. This led to Rodgers’ vehement denials that he was in any way involved in the decision. That being said, Rodgers’ frustrations with past head coaches are well documented.

Jets fans balk at the mocking and ridicule the team engenders. But it’s difficult for others to not mention the “same old Jets” when they remain the same old Jets. Firing a head coach after five games is something that losing organizations do. That being said, there is also a reasonable argument to dismiss Saleh. The Jets were 20-36 under his guidance. They were undisciplined with costly penalties. And the offense was persistently bad.

The Jets have scored a total of 93 points so far this season. How much of that was the result of a defensive minded coach in Saleh? How much is due to the offensive scheme of coordinator Nathaniel Hackett? And how much is because of Aaron Rodgers’ rapidly declining play?

Bills Stumble, But Remain Atop AFC East

Buffalo is not an afterthought despite the firestorm surrounding the Jets. The Bills won their first three games with point totals of 34, 31, and 47 points. They were subsequently blown out by the Ravens and then lost 23-20 to the Texans. They are not without problems of their own. Along with the two straight losses, QB Josh Allen hit his head on the turf in the loss to Houston and speculation suggested he suffered a concussion.

Regardless, he returned to the game without entering the concussion protocol. He was also dealing with an injury to his left hand. Featured back James Cook has a toe injury. Top receiver Khalil Shakir missed the Houston game and is not practicing with an ankle injury. Buffalo will need to find a way to overcome all of these injuries to win this game.

Prediction: Jets’ Disarray Leads to a Bills Win

The NFL is not like the other major sports where firing a coach midseason has a reasonable track record of success. Along with their horrific offensive showing so far in 2024, the Jets are now dealing with a new head coach fired by a meddling owner.

The Bills vs Jets prediction goes beyond the players on the field and accounts for the sense of dysfunction stemming from Johnson firing his coach, apparently unilaterally. Accordingly, the Bills should cover the spread against the reeling Jets.
