The streaky Blue Jays (21-14) are back in the swing of things following their weekend sweep of the surprising Pirates. Toronto had lost five straight prior to the visit to Pittsburgh, and now hope to keep piling up the W’s as they face a Phillies (16-19) team that has lost six of their last seven. Philadelphia still gets the favorite tag from the offshore sportsbooks for this series opener.
Before Betting on Blue Jays vs Phillies
Toronto had every aspect of their game working this weekend, outscoring the Pirates 22-3 in the three game sweep. The trends are looking good for the Blue Jays, who have gone 20-7 their last 27 games after an off day, are 8-3 in their last 11 interleague games, and are 45-20 in their last 65 vs a RH starter.
The Phillies were finally able to get back into the win column with a 6-1 victory over the Red Sox. Philadelphia had been having a tough time of it, getting swept over three games against the Dodgers while giving up 36 total runs and then losing the first two back at home to Boston. The Phillies have won five of their last six at home against RH starters, and are 37-18 their last 55 at Citizens Bank Park although that record is just 9-7 in 2023.
Despite some recent struggles, the Phillies are still favored on Tuesday night which means oddsmakers must have some semblance of faith in Philadelphia starter Aaron Nola (2-2, 4.64 ERA). Nola gave up 4ER over 6.1 IP his last time out against the Dodgers, but did throw 8.0 IP of 3-hit ball a start prior against Houston.
Alek Manoah (1-2, 4.71 ERA) goes for Toronto in the series opener, hoping to build off three straight starts where he’s allowed 2 ER or less. Manoah’s ERA is inflated thanks to 7ER allowed against the Rays on April 16, but he’s looked dialed in since then.

Blue Jays vs Phillies Prediction & Pick
Everything says Toronto in this matchup. The Blue Jays have momentum and Manoah looks locked in over his last three starts. That being said, this game also has trap written all over it with the Phillies losing six of their last seven and still getting the favorite price tag. When Toronto is too easy of a play, it’s time to fade.
