Chelsea has stuttered in the league, and winning the competition may be their only route back into the Champions League next season.

A first-ever meeting in a European competition between Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea takes place on Wednesday evening. The first leg could be pivotal when it comes to the side that will progress, before the sides meet for the return leg at Stamford Bridge in a couple of weeks time.

However, Chelsea also don’t have the best record away from home against German opposition, as they have picked up just three victories from their previous eleven visits. Their only wins during that period were both recorded against Schalke. On their previous trip to Germany, Chelsea were beaten 4-1 by Bayern Munich.
Graham Potter could make history on Wednesday, as he will be looking to become only the second English manager since Sir Bobby Robson to win an away tie in the Champions League in Germany.
