Filip Hrgovic vs Emir Ahmatovic Preview

Hrgovic On World Title Track

Hrgovic has been a fighter that heavyweight boxing fans would have been hearing a lot about for a number of years now, but he has been forced to take a backseat while the world title fights have been played out. However, he could put down a huge marker for next year this weekend with a massive performance that would catch the attention of both Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. The Croatian has a perfect 13-0 record as a professional, which came after winning bronze at the Olympics in 2016, and gold at the European Amateur Boxing Championships in 2015. Hrgovic has been dominant throughout his professional career to this point, and has only been taken the distance on two occasions.

However, he has been able to dismantle opponents inside the distance in each of his last six fights. The two standout wins for many would have come against Eric Molina and Rydell Booker, as he beat the Americans inside the opening five rounds. After beating Book to regain his IBF International title, he most recent took on Marko Radonjic in September. It was once again a straightforward fight for the Croatian heavyweight, as he beat his rival in round three.

Ahmatovic Massive Outsider

It’s very rare in boxing that you get a fighter at double digit odds. However, that is exactly what we have this weekend, as Ahmatovic is around a+1400 chance to win the fight against the reigning IBF International champion. It could be that the odds are underplaying his chances this weekend, as he does have a perfect 10- record to this point, with seven of his wins coming inside the distance.

However, he did struggle to get the job done in his last fight in May, as he needed a split decision victory to get past Gabriel Enguema. There’s no doubt that this is a huge step up for Ahmatovic this weekend, and it will be fascinating to see the gameplan that his corner have set up to combat the sheer strike power of Hrgovic.

Filip Hrgovic vs Emir Ahmatovic Pick

This may not be much of a contest in Las Vegas this weekend, as it looks likely that we will see another heavyweight masterclass by Hrgovic. The Croatian will be looking to dominant the fight from the first bell, and we will be surprised to see it go past the fifth round. It could be an early finish in round three, as the Croat displays his clear title credentials.
