The Marlins (16-13) are fresh off a weekend sweep of the Cubs and have their ace on the mound as the NL East leading Braves (19-10) visit South Beach for a three game set. Atlanta took three of four when these two clubs met last week and the Braves were 13-6 against Miami in 2022.
Before Betting on Braves vs Marlins
The Braves have won five of their last seven overall including taking two of three at the Mets over the weekend but are the underdogs up against Sandy Alcantara in Tuesday’s series opener. Atlanta has the #8 scoring offense in baseball (5.17 runs/game) and if they’re going to get to Alcantara now would be the time to do it as the Marlins right-hander has a 5.04 ERA through his first five starts of the year after posting a 2.28 mark during his Cy Young winning season a year ago.
The Braves managed just 4 hits against Alcantara last Wednesday, but did get a Ronald Acuna, Jr. HR and a Vaughn Grissom RBI single in the 6th as Atlanta went on to win 6-4 after getting to the Marlins bullpen late.
Bryce Elder (2-0, 2.17 ERA) is up in the rotation for Atlanta on Tuesday night, giving the Braves some value after his strong start to 2023. Elder is coming off his worst outing of the season against these Marlins though, allowing 3 HRs over 5.1 IP last Wednesday but getting bailed out by his offense in a 6-4 win. Elder hadn’t allowed a run in three of his four starts prior to that meeting.

Alcantara hasn’t been his usual dominant self so far this season, but the calendar has turned to May and he should start to settle in. At the same time Elder is in tune for a bounce back performance which makes this game look like a 2-1 or 3-2 finish.
