It was a busy night in the NHL on Wednesday evening with 12 teams in action. There were results that had consequences at both ends of every conference. The Boston Bruins faced off against the Vegas Golden Knights as they looked to end their recent skid of bad results. Meanwhile, there was a New York derby, and the Philadelphia Flyers played against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Narrow Success For Bruins
The Boston Bruins managed to outlast in Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL on Wednesday night, as they continued to press home their dominance of the Atlantic Division. However, the win was only their second in the last four outings for them. It was a cagey opening two periods as the teams were deadlocked.
The Golden Knights and Bruins both scored in the opening period, before Vegas took the lead in the second. However, the Bruins came back into the game to win it in the final period as they scored two unanswered goals. Boston’s goals were scored by David Krejci, Jake DeBrusk and Jeremy Lauzon. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights goals were scored by Mark Stone and Nicolas Hague.
Islanders Victorious Over Local Rivals
The New York Islanders got the perfect revenge over the New York Rangers on Wednesday night, as they avenged their defeat last week in the NHL by beating them on their home ice. The Islanders got off to the perfect start as they raced into a two-goal lead. They added to the lead further in the second period by scoring again.
However, the Rangers got back into the game with two goal’s of their own to start the third, but the Islanders weren’t to be denied and got a late goal to make sure of the win. The Islanders remain in third in the Metropolitan Division because of the win. Josh Bailey, Anthony Beauvillier, Anders Lee and Brock Nelson got the goals for the Islanders. Meanwhile, Pavel Buchnevich and Chris Kreider found the net for the struggling Rangers.
Flyers Continue Good NHL Form
The Philadelphia Flyers made it two wins from two in the NHL, as they beat the Pittsburgh Penguins to add to their success over the LA Kings. Their 3-0 win means that they have only conceded one goal in their last two games. The Flyers were held out in the opening period, before making their attacking advantage count in the second period.
They scored twice in the second, before adding a third in the final frame to ensure they got the win. Justin Braun, Jakub Voracek and James van Riemsdyk got the goals for the home side. However, the Penguins will have an immediate chance to get their own back when they meet again on Saturday evening. The Penguins will go into that game as the narrow favourites as they look to maintain their position in the playoffs. They have lost just three times in the last ten, which highlights that they have enjoyed an excellent spell of form despite the defeat on Wednesday.
