Casey O’Neill lands 8.41 significant strikes per minute on average, which is more than any other fighter in the history of the UFC, male or female. In comparison, Sean O’Malley, who’s famous for his boxing, lands 7.67.
Does this mean Luana Santos is in trouble when she steps into the Octagon with the Aussie fighter at UFC 305? Let’s find out!
Before Betting on Casey O’Neill vs. Luana Santos
When BetOnline released the Casey O’Neill vs. Luana Santos odds, the Brazilian fighter was a -153 favorite. The odds have moved slightly in O’Neill’s favor, but the Aussie still remains the underdog. Why is that the case?
Honestly, we don’t know. The probable reason is that she’s without a win in a year and a half. However, those two losses – which are her only defeats in her professional MMA career – happened against fighters who are much better than Luana Santos.
Another reason we’re shocked to see Santos as the betting favorite is that she’s stepped in on relatively short notice after O’Neill’s original opponent Tereza Bleda quit.
What this means is that the Brazilian had to take a 30+ hours long flight to get from her hometown of Sao Paulo to Perth in Australia. After dealing with jet lag, she only had a limited time to prepare for the duel with O’Neill.
Casey O’Neill vs. Luana Santos Offshore Odds & Pick
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Casey O’Neill | +121 |
Luana Santos | -141 |
Luana Santos is a judo black belt who’s got decent striking, but her striking is nowhere near as good as O’Neill’s. We doubt she’s gonna be able to get close to her, especially given that her opponent has had a full camp to prepare for UFC 305, while Santos has only spent a couple of weeks getting herself ready for the fight.
That said, we think it’s time for O’Neill to get back onto the winning track and get her 10th career win.
