  • The Celtics are 20-5 and own the best record in the Atlantic Division.
  • Washington is 3-20 and has the worst record in the Southeast Division.
  • These teams last played on Nov. 22, with the defending champions claiming a 108-96 victory.

One of the games on Sunday night’s NBA slate features the Boston Celtics taking on the woeful Washington Wizards. In a matchup of teams trending in opposite directions, our Celtics vs Wizards prediction foresees the Celtics coasting to victory.

Boston To Continue Winning Ways Against Washington

The Celtics enter this matchup on the heels of an impressive 123-99 win over the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night. Despite Jayson Tatum’s absence (sore knee), the Celtics had little trouble putting the ball in the hoop, as six players reached double figures. Payton Pritchard led all scorers with 27 points off the bench, including seven 3-pointers.

Derrick White finished with 23 points and four assists, while Kristaps Porzingis added 19 points and eight rebounds. Boston, already leading by 10 points at the break, increased its advantage to 25 points, outscoring Detroit by a 34-24 margin in the third quarter. The Celtics’ defense held the Pistons to 42.9 percent shooting from the field and just 7-for-37 from beyond the arc — a conversion rate of 18.9 percent.

Wizards Have Had A Tough Season

Meanwhile, the Wizards are one of the worst teams in the association, as their 3-20 record indicates. They enter this conference tilt amid a two-game slide, including a 115-105 loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night. There’s no shame in that since the Cavs own the best record in the league.

Despite its second straight double-digit loss, Washington kept the game close for the most part, as four players scored in double figures. Bilal Coulibaly paced the offense with a team-high 27 points, grabbed six rebounds, and handed out five assists. Jordan Poole and Justin Champagnie scored 17 and 16 points, respectively.

It should also be noted that the Wizards — a team ranked near the bottom of the league in defense — held the Cavaliers to 39.6 percent shooting overall and 30 percent from 3-point range. Unfortunately, the effort was not enough to prevent the Cavaliers from winning for the 11th straight time in this series.

Celtics vs Wizards Prediction: Boston Wins Hands Down

The Celtics have the league’s second-best record and have won eight of their last 10 games. On the other side of this matchup, the Wizards have the worst record in the association and have dropped nine of their previous 10 contests. Given these trends, look for the Cs to coast to its seventh straight victory over Washington.
