The betting public have to be hammering the offshore sportsbooks over on Monday night when Texas faces Washington in the Sugar Bowl. This could be a 5-hour game the way the Longhorns (36.2 ppg) and Huskies (37.7 ppg) can put up points at will – mostly through the air. These two teams met in the Alamo Bowl last year in what was a 27-20 Washington win – but they may hit that amount of points by halftime the way each program is dialed in right now.
Before Betting on the 2024 Sugar Bowl
Washington is getting points on Monday night, which has to seem like an insult to a team that has gone 13-0 this year, answering every challenge put in front of them. The Huskies have won 20 straight games heading back to last season, and have a Heisman finalist in QB Michael Penix, Jr. that has maybe as good of a grasp on an offense as we’ve seen in the last 10+ years in the FBS.
We thought Penix, Jr. was solid last year when he threw for 4,641 yards with 31 TDs and 8 INTs, but that was no fluke as he topped that with 33 TDs this year (with more to likely come) to go along with 4,218 yards and a 69.9% completion rate. The Huskies have a 1,000 yard rusher in Dillon Johnson and an argument could be made that WR Rome Odunze (1,428 yards, 13 TDS) is the best in the nation along with Marvin Harrison, Jr. and Malik Nabers.
Texas persevered in the middle of a tough Big 12 schedule, beating Kansas State by a field goal and TCU by 3 points in games that could have sent their season into a spiral. Once the Longhorns got through that though, they finished the season on a strong note, outscoring Texas Tech and Oklahoma State 106-28 in their last two games prior to the playoffs.

2024 Sugar Bowl Prediction & Pick
Maybe Washington will finally get the credit they are deserved with a win in the Sugar Bowl. The Huskies were +9.5 underdogs in the Pac 12 Championship game against Oregon despite their undefeated record and ended up winning 34-31. Until Washington gets dethroned, take them – especially getting points.
