A repeat of one of the most iconic Champions League finals in history is set for matchday one in the competition, as AC Milan vs. Liverpool will take place on September 17.

The clubs met in two finals in the 2000s, with the Reds landing a famous success in Istanbul in 2004-05 after coming back from 3-0 down. Milan would later gain revenge in the 2006-07 final.

Before Betting on the Champions League

Two iconic European clubs will renew their rivalry in the Champions League when the European competition gets underway on Tuesday. Liverpool and AC Milan collided in two European finals in three seasons between 2004 and 2007, with the Reds winning the 2005 showpiece, before Milan gained revenge in 2007.

A thrilling opening night showdown in the competition could come at a bad time for the hosts on Tuesday. Milan have made a slow start to the new Serie A campaign, as they are still waiting for their first victory in the domestic competition.

It would be a major concern, they have conceded at least twice in each of their opening three matches at the start of the Italian campaign.

Arne Slot will be tasked with winning a seventh Champions League honor for Liverpool this season. Jurgen Klopp reached three European Cup finals during his stay at Anfield, with his only success coming in 2019.

Slot has made a comfortable start to life on Merseyside, winning each of his opening three Premier League matches without conceding. However, this trip to the San Siro will present a first difficult challenge on the road on the continent.

But, their chances of progression through to the knockout round appear to be strong after qualifying from the group stage in every Champions League appearance since 2014-15.
