Juventus vs Chelsea Preview

Old Lady Back In Form

Juventus had endured a slow start to the new season in Serie A, as they found themselves in the relegation places just seven days ago. However, something has clicked into gear with the Old Lady since then, as they have won their last two, and are unbeaten in four in all competitions. Juventus fought hard in their last fixture, as they beat Sampdoria 3-2 at the Allianz Stadium. Paulo Dybala scored a fantastic opener in that fixture, before being substituted having picked up an injury.

Leonardo Bonucci also was on the scoresheet in the first half, while Manuel Locatelli scored the eventual clinching goal in the match, which was his first since moving to the Old Lady in the summer. Juventus are the current leaders in Group H, having beat Malmo 3-0 in Sweden two weeks ago. Alex Sandro and Dybala scored in the first 45, while Alvaro Morata extended the advantage in first half injury time. Morata will also be unavailable for this fixture against his former side, having picked up an injury at the weekend.

Chelsea Hoping To Bounce Back

While Juventus added a second straight win in the league at the weekend, Chelsea watched as their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season came to an end against Manchester City. The Blues were very unimpressive in that fixture, as they allowed Manchester City to dominant the possession throughout the fixture, and were ultimately fortunate to have lost the game by just one.

Chelsea didn’t threaten the City goal throughout much of the contest, as they struggled to change their tactics from a defensive setup to one that was more on the front foot. The Blues did start their defence of the Champions League with a win though, but they were forced to wait in that fixture against Zenit St Petersburg, with Romelu Lukaku heading home with just 20 minutes remaining.

Important Stats

Juventus and Chelsea will be meeting for a fifth time in the Champions League this Wednesday. Both clubs have won once in this fixture, while there have also been to draws. The Old Lady have an excellent record at home in Champions League group stage fixtures, as they have won eleven of the twelve games that they have played.

Juventus vs Chelsea Pick

While the overall record is similar, there does appear to be a huge difference in the quality of both sides this season. Chelsea have a strong squad that looks more than capable of going deep in the Champions League this term, and they should be able to get over the line in this fixture on Wednesday.
