The third round of the EFL Cup takes place this week, and one of the standout ties in the competition will see Chelsea and Brighton lock horns at Stamford Bridge. There will be huge pressure on the hosts to land victory after a slow start to the new campaign.

Before Betting On Chelsea vs Brighton

The pressure is already building on Mauricio Pochettino, as Chelsea come into this third round tie in the EFL Cup after winning just one in six Premier League fixtures this term. Their only win this season was achieved against Luton Town, but it has failed to see the tide turn in the favor of the Blues.

Chelsea come into this third round tie in poor recent form, as they suffered a third defeat of the campaign in their most recent fixture. That loss leaves Chelsea sitting in 14th place in the standings, and the EFL Cup will carry more weight this term, as the Blues look to end their wait for a major piece of silverware.

However, Brighton come into this fixture as the form side, as they have moved up to third in the Premier League standings after winning each of their previous three matches. The Seagulls bounced back to form in pleasing style on Sunday, as they recovered from a shock home loss against AEK Athens in their Europa League opener to beat Bournemouth at home.

Brighton will also take great confidence from their recent record in this fixture, as they have gone five without defeat against Chelsea. Meanwhile, they have also recorded wins in each of the previous two matches against the Blues. The most recent of those was a 2-1 success at Stamford Bridge in April.

Chelsea’s start to the season has raised questions surrounding whether they have actually improved following their dismal campaign last term. Brighton appear to be the better side out of these two, and it could be hard to overlook them at the prices available.
