After avoiding suspension by league in regards to allegations of child abuse the Kansas City Chiefs sign Tyreek Hill to an extension.

Chiefs to Sign Tyreek Hill to an Extension

The Kansas Chiefs to sign Tyreek Hill to a three-year extension after he spent the summer waiting to find out what his future in football might be. He had been accused of child abuse and an audio of him threatening the mother of his child also surfaced. Obviously the Chiefs needed to proceed with caution considering the situation they just went through with Kareem Hunt.

In the Hunt situation the Chiefs acted swiftly when they released the running back after video surfaced of him assaulting a woman at a hotel. At the time, the Chiefs said that Hunt lied to them about the situation which forced them to make the decision to part way with him.

In this case with Hill, they needed to be careful because this is not the first time he has had a domestic violence issue with the mother of his child. He was kicked out of Oklahoma St University as a result of a previous incident.

Hill is a Unique Talent in the NFL

The decision for the Chiefs to sign Tyreek Hill to an extension might rub some fans the wrong way because of the ugly nature of the charges. That being said, he hasn’t been found guilty and the Chiefs can’t simply let him walk away. He might be the most dangerous player in the NFL with the ball in his hands. With him on the team, the Chiefs offense is virtually unstoppable with him on the field.

There are a lot of fast players in the NFL but none as fast as Hill. Being fast is not worth much if you can’t catch passes or run proper routes. Hill proved last season that he can do both which has elevated his status in the game to elite. He is simply one of the best players in the NFL period and for that reason it was a no brainer for the Chiefs to sign Tyreek Hill to an extension while they still have Patrick Mahomes on a rookie deal.

Hill and the Chiefs Looking to the Future

While the effects of this incident will linger in the court of public opinion for quite some time, the Chiefs have made their choice. They know the chance to win a Super Bowl does not come around very often and they want to make the most of that opportunity. Once they have to pay Patrick Mahomes, they might not have the money to surround him with as much talent as they can now.

The decision for the Chiefs to sign Tyreek Hill to an extension now instead of waiting is essentially them telling the world that the next 3 years it’s Super Bowl or bust. That was already obvious with the talent they have on the roster. Giving Hill $35.5 million guaranteed with a $5.8 million signing bonus is confirmation of that intent. Hopefully for the Chiefs, there are no more off the field incidents involving Tyreek Hill. His new deal means he will be with the team through the 2022 season.
