Saturday was a busy day in the NFL. After seeing Keenan Allen and DeShaun Watson signing their extensions, two more big names made their moves – Jadeveon Clowney and Tre’DAvious White.
Clowney to Join Mike Vrabel in Tennessee
One of the best defensive ends in the league wants to join the TennesseeTitans and reunite with Mike Vrabel with whom he worked together in Houston. Apart from Vrabel, Titans’ defensive backs coach Antony Midget, and OLB coach Shane Bowen were all in Houston with Clowney and Vrabel.
According to the sources from within the organization from Nashville, this was one of the main reasons for Clowney’s decision. After being picked as the first overall selection in the 2014 NFL draft, the strong DE developed an excellent relationship with all these persons, becoming one of the best defenders in the league.
Clowney is a three-time Pro Bowl player and a second-team All-Pro in 2016. He is regarded as one of the most impactful players in the NFL in his position. The Texans traded him after 2018 to the Seattle Seahawks, where he became the leading player on the defensive team, and was expected to stay at the CenturyLink Field for the years to come.
Eventually, that didn’t happen. The Seahawks didn’t have enough resources to sign him, while on the other side, Pete Carroll and the management couldn’t use any tags because of the previously arranged deal with the player once he arrived from Houston.
Clowney received offers from several sides, with the New Orleans Saints being the most determined to sign the 27-year old. In the end, he decided to go to Tennessee, who exploded last year, reaching the AFC Championship Game, where they lost to the Super Bowl champions, Kansas City Chiefs.
Titans are putting together a team worthy of every respect. They signed long-term deals with Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry, adding Vic Beasley, Nick Dzubnar, and others on the defensive side of the football. With Clowney, this unit will be one of the best in the entire NFL.
Bills Keeping White Long-Term
Buffalo’s cornerback Tre’Davious White and his current team have signed an agreement that would extend their partnership for four more years. The entire contract is worth $70 million, with $55 million guaranteed, which makes White the highest-paid CB in the league.
Bills offered him an extension after just three seasons in the NFL. It appears that the franchise didn’t want to risk anything but decided to tie the fantastic defender long-term right away, and avoid any possible complications.
Coming out of LSU, Buffalo selected him as the 27th pick of the first round. In the meantime, apart from becoming the vital piece of the team’s defense, White established himself as one of the league’s elite defenders.
He was elected to be a Pro Bowler in 2019, as well as the All-Pro First Team. With his signature, the Bills have secured the defense’s core, after extending the contract with LT Dion Dawkins last month.
