- Washington stunned the Lions on Saturday in a dominant 45-31 road victory.
- The Eagles held off the Rams at home, defeating them by a score of 28-22.
- These teams last met on December 22, in a game that Washington won 36-33.
Super Bowl LIX is close! The NFC Championship first holds an NFC East battle to decide their Super Bowl rep. Our Commanders vs Eagles pick sees Washington continuing to surprise their opponents.
Red-Hot Washington Eyes Super Bowl
The Commanders made the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1992 following their stunning win over the Lions. QB Jayden Daniels was exceptional once again. He finished the game 22 of 31 for 299 yards, and 2 TDs. Daniels is aiming to become the first rookie QB to make the Super Bowl.
While Daniels was exceptional in the win, it was Washington’s defense that was the true engine behind their victory. They turned the Lions over five times, including four critical interceptions. The Commanders scored 45 points due to the defense setting the offense up with many short fields.
Washington went 1-1 against the Eagles during the regular season. In order to avoid losing on the road in Philadelphia again, they need to be at their best. While the defense was aggressive and forced several turnovers last week, they also allowed several chunk plays. They need to do a better job of containing.
Eagles Aim to Avoid Upset Defeat
The Eagles didn’t look particularly dangerous on offense against the Rams with the exception of RB Saquon Barkley. While Barkley rushed 26 times for 206 yards, QB Jalen Hurts threw 20 passes for just 128 yards. Part of that can be blamed on the snowy conditions, which they’ll hope to avoid this week.
With the passing game restricted by the weather, Barkley absolutely exploded. He ripped off touchdowns of 62 and 78 yards, carrying Philadelphia’s offense in a competitive matchup. He’ll be tasked with providing another huge chunk of offense against Washington’s capable front-7.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia’s defense was solid once again. They sacked opposing QB Matthew Stafford seven times and forced two fumbles. They constant pressure prevented the Rams from establishing the run and executing their game plan. They’ll have a tougher time slowing down Daniels this week.
Washington Commanders vs Philadelphia Eagles Pick
Jayden Daniels has already defied all odds as a rookie, earning a spot in the top-5 QB conversation. He can cement himself among the best in the league by becoming the first rookie QB to ever make the Super Bowl. It won’t be easy on the road against a stacked Eagles team, but I wasn’t all that impressed with Philadelphia’s passing game lately. If Washington can slow down Barkley, they’ll win.
