Before Betting On Coronation Cup

Exciting Group One action will set the tone for the day at Epsom Downs on Friday, as the Coronation Cup is the big race on the undercard to the Oaks. This race is competed by horses aged four and over. A total distance of a mile and four will be covered by the field in this race, which has been contested since 1902.

Aidan O’Brien holds a very dominant record in the race, having claimed success on eight previous occasions. Luxembourg will be one of his key contenders in the race this week. The five-year-old endured a challenging winter in the Middle East after finishing fourth in the G2 Neom Turf Cup, before finishing toward the back in the G1 Dubai Turf. But, he remains a huge consistent runner on British and Irish turf.

However, Emily Upjohn will once again be the runner to beat for the yard of John & Thady Gosden. The five-year-old mare was an impressive winner of the race last year, and she already has a run under her belt this year after finishing fifth in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic.

Time Lock has already had a return run this season, but she was slightly disappointing when two lengths behind Outbox in the G2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket. Feed The Flame could be the most progressive contender this week, as he returns to a mile and four for the first time since finishing eighth in the G1 Arc.

A tricky looking Coronation Cup is an interesting puzzle for bettors on Friday. Emily Upjohn has proven course and distance form, but she may need this run after a break. A chance could be taken on Dubai Honour, who was last seen finishing seventh in the G1 QEII Cup.
