Time Is Running Out on the Cowboys’ Playoff Hopes
It’s simplistic to blame head coach Mike McCarthy for Dallas’ woes. However, since owner Jerry Jones serves as the team’s general manager, the GM isn’t the one who will be fired if things continue down this road.
The Cowboys followed their embarrassing 47-9 loss to Detroit by losing in San Francisco 30-24. Their roster is flawed. Injuries hobbled key defenders Trevon Diggs and Micah Parsons.
Worryingly in 2024, they have been dominated by the NFL‘s top teams. While it remains to be seen if Atlanta is in that echelon, the Falcons have a pro’s pro at quarterback in Kirk Cousins, offensive firepower, and are resilient.
The Cowboys’ offense has not been as productive as advertised, mainly due to their questionable running game. Their defense has missed stars Diggs and Parsons and has not been as opportunistic in generating turnovers as in 2023 when they won 12 games.

Cousins is having a Pro Bowl season and utilizing the myriad weapons with running backs Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier and pass catchers Ray-Ray McLoud, Drake London, Darnell Mooney, and Kyle Pitts. They do not generate many takeaways, but they do not turn the ball over inordinately despite the pass-heavy nature of their offense.
